Shanghai
The FFC (Former French Concession) is home to some of the nicest places in Shanghai. This list is comprised of my favorite places. I lived there just short of four and a half years, view of cover from my bedroom on Tai’an Lu.
Bar No. 3 is my no. 1 bar, in Shanghai. The interior is neat, the vibe casual and the drinks excellent. There’s a nice happy hour from 5 to maybe 7 and during the summer months they open up seating on the street. The only caveat is that it’s often too crowded during the weekends.

Great Xinjiang food in a nice setting, which is not always the case. Indulge in lots of chuanrs (lamb skewers) and a lot more! Good place for larger groups as well.

This place is a treat! Indulge in a huge variety of grilled cheese sandwiches. The original is impeccable but there’s a bunch of interesting ones like the Thai green curry grilled cheese! In addition they have a great selection of hot sauce and it’s one of the few places in Shanghai where you can get a great Bloody Caesar!
32 Yuyuan Dong Lu, near Changde Lu 愚园东路32号, 近常德路
The go-to place for a great and cheap yunnan meal. Good for larger groups but probably best to make a reservation as they get silly busy at peak hours.
