Favorite local restaurants

Makati City, Tagaytay, Taytay

As a chef, I usually explore new restaurants to taste new dishes and support local food businesses. The country boasts impressive selections that can please the Filipino palate, making it one of the most sought-after dining destinations in the world. Whether it's for a taste of comfort or a Sunday lunch with the family, here are some my favorites!

Balaw Balaw Restaurant and Art Gallery

I’m a fan of exotic food so I go to Angono, Rizal just for Balaw Balaw! Before, they would serve a wide variety of weird food that might make people squirm—deer, wild pig, grasshopper, frog, python, horse meat, and a lot more! These are the dishes that you won’t find anywhere else and I love them! However, DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) restrictions have halted them from offering those unique dishes. The good thing about that place is the taste of the food is pleasant and the ambiance is great, even though it’s far. It’s worth coming back to!

Tagaytay, Philippines • Recommendation •

I was amazed when I first dined at Antonio’s in Tagaytay. They had freshly picked green veggies for their salads, berry sauce for their salad dressings, and a heavenly version of Conichillo! The crunchy and indulgent exterior of the roasted suckling pig goes well with its delectable stuffing, which is made up of chutney, pearl onions, shiitake mushroom, tamarind liver sauce, and rice potato croquettes.

Tagaytay Mahogany Beef Market & Bulalohan

Whenever I go to Tagaytay, I never forget to drop by the popular Mahogany Marketplace! It’s a charming spot where you can find exceptional Bulalo and Caldereta; plus, you can hang out with your friends al fresco! If you ask me, the best place to try all the good food is in the marketplace since they cook authentic dishes. In restaurants, they use their own preparation style, but marketplaces usually stick to the traditional way of cooking.

They serve good portions of seafood. You buy the raw ingredients first then your chosen restaurant will cook them for you. If you’re looking for affordable authentic Asian dishes with fresh ingredients, their offerings won’t disappoint!

Classic Savory

Makati City, Philippines • Recommendation •

I can eat anything, but my family is quite picky. They want the classic Filipino taste. On Sundays, when my family and I would go out for lunch, we usually go here. This is my family’s favorite restaurant! They like how the chicken is cooked here.

Whenever I’m craving for authentic and delicious Japanese food, I go here. It has a quiet atmosphere and their selections, which include Kaiseki Ryori and Kobe Beef Sankai, are just phenomenal.
