A list of modern and minimalist structures around the world I would want to visit someday.
This postmodern apartment complex is one of Ricardo Bofill’s famous buildings. The building’s design is puzzle-like with different geometric cuts and colorful walls. Visitors are even free to rent rooms within the building! 📸: Pexels/ Dana Geisser
Partida Manzanera, 3, 03710 Calpe, Alicante, Spain
The YSL museum is a beautiful mix of curves and straight lines. This building was designed by Studio KO and is just a short distance away from Jardin Majorelle, YSL’s home in Marrakech.
Rue Yves St Laurent, Marrakech 40000, Morocco
Also known as Teatro Azul de Almada. The theatre was designed by Manuel Graça Dias, Egas José Vieira and Gonçalo Afonso Dias. The cobalt blue building also houses one of the biggest theatre rooms in Portugal.
Av. Prof. Egas Moniz, 2800-067 Almada, Portugal
Walden-7 is another apparent complex by Ricardo Bofill. It was completed in 1975. The building is almost labyrinth like with the way it was designed. An interesting feature of the building is its asymmetry and variation of each room!
Ctra. Reial, 106, 08960 Sant Just Desvern, Barcelona, Spain
his contemporary museum was designed by Ricardo Legorreta. The museum houses various exhibits from science to art. The minimalist landscape even compliments the geometric structure of the building!
Blvd. Antonio Rocha Cordero S/N, Tierra Blanca, 78364 San Luis, S.L.P., Mexico
This modern church was designed by Gottfried Böhm. The stark geometric shapes of then church’s exterior is a perfect example of brutalism.
Elberfelder Str. 12, 42553 Velbert, Germany
Also called as the Palace of Rituals. This was designed by Victor Djorbenadze. The building draws different inspirations from expressionism to medieval architecture. It is now a private property but can be rented out for events. Surprisingly, it was formerly a residence of an oligarch. 😱
21 Bochorma St, T'bilisi, Georgia
The building was designed by Giovanni Guerrini, Ernesto Bruno La Padula and Mario Romano. This building exemplifies Fascist architecture. Interestingly, architecture around the EUR represents what Italian architecture would look like if the fascist regime continued in Italy.
Quadrato della Concordia, 3, 00144 Roma RM, Italy
Another church by Gottfried Böhm. The original structure of the church was traditional. Böhm reinvented the design after it was demolished due to destruction caused by bombings during the Second World War.
Brucknerstraße, 50931 Köln, Germany
The building was designed by American architect Louis Kahn. The building houses spacious laboratories. Founder Jonas Salk directed Kahn to create a welcoming and inspiring environment. As a result, he designed spacious rooms with ample natural light. There are two underground floors but this has not stopped Kahn from giving these spaces some daylight. He created light wells from both sides of the building to give the lower floors daylight.
