Glorious sunsets, glistening temples, and warm smiles are just among the many things that make Thailand golden
Bangkok
Thailand’s capital city sees millions of visitors every year; and a few days (and nights) in town prove why it’s one of the world’s most unique cities! Whenever I have first-time guests over, I do my best to immerse them into Bangkok’s best experiences. These often include temples, street markets, and the local nightlife. Check out my list to see the ultimate tourist guide to Krung Thep!
Wat Arun is a spectacular riverside temple famous for its intricate spires. There are five prangs (Khmer-style towers) in the compound, each encrusted with colorful pieces of Chinese ceramics and porcelain. Climb the central steeple to marvel at views of the winding Chao Phraya River and the Grand Palace across the bank.

The Grand Palace is a large complex that used to be the home of Thai kings, the Royal Court, and the government’s administrative seat. It’s composed of several impressive buildings, but Wat Phra Kaew is the most prominent. The temple houses The Emerald Buddha, the most important Buddhist image in the country. Learn about Thailand’s history and progress as you spend an afternoon (or an entire day) here. Dress appropriately—the Grand Palace employs a strict dress code!

Wat Saket is best known for the Golden Mount, an 80-meter high man-made hill crowned with a golden stupa. Before climbing 300 steps to get to the structure, notice the unusual cemetery at the base. Wat Saket used to be the capital crematorium; it became a dumping ground for around 600,000 plague victims! When you ascend to the top, visit the Buddha relic housed within the chedi and marvel at the panoramic vista of old Bangkok!

When Bangkok’s heat becomes too much to handle, find solace in Hazel’s Ice Cream Parlour. The shop is popular for its boozy concoctions, but there are also non-alcoholic options for the purists. They have teamed up with organic producer Farm to Table to create their own line of flavors such as Absinthe Cream, Bourbon Vanilla, and Rum Raisin. You may try it per scoop, but I suggest you indulge in a full-on sundae!
