Austin
We all love the great Austin weather, but we love it a little bit more during fall, and what better way to enjoy the chilly winds and autumn colors than with a picnic! Down in Austin, you’ve got plenty of options, from a beautiful field of flowers, an exhilarating lakeside romp, or a spot under the shade of a reliable tree. Fold your blankets and pack the baskets because it’s picnic time!
Work up an appetite before your picnic at Lakewood Park’s many amenities such as a dog park, fishing pier, basketball and volleyball courts. Once it’s time to chow down and open up the picnic basket, you can opt for either a large family sized pavilion or a more intimate one with a stunning lakeside view.

A busy campus field might be the last place you want to go for a picnic in Austin, but the LBJ Library Lawn is surprisingly chill as most student traffic is far and away. You may want to come in early to secure the best spot: a big tree at the off of the hill that overlooks a fountain.

Drive out to the Arnosky Family Farm, a “self-service” farmers market that offers beautiful flowers and sustainably grown produce. It’s the absolute perfect spot to take someone out on a romantic date as you can quite literally pick a bouquet of flowers. The bonus part is that entrance is totally free; there’s no need to buy anything just to enjoy the landscape from a picnic by the patio.

Swing by Festival Beach for a true outdoor experience. There are plenty of shady trees to rest under once you’re done coasting through the Lady Bird Lake Paddling Trail. Make sure to wait for nightfall and see a million bats take to the skies for their nightly meals.

Get barely just out of town and visit the breathtaking McKinney Falls State Park where you can hike up the trails for an amazing picnic next to a waterfall. If you find yourself loving nature so much, you can opt to extend your stay by camping out under the stars. Make sure to secure passes from their website!

For a spot that’s a little less DIY and a little more grab-n-go, head on over to Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q. Here you’ll get to load up your picnic table with sausages, ribs, briskets, turkey, and whatever sides that fit right at home with some good old fashioned Texan barbeque. Utensils are optional, so go ahead and dig right in with your hands!
