Originally commissioned for the Doge of Venice (the city’s highest official), Gritti Palace exudes Venetian opulence. Every room is exquisitely fitted with rich Italian fabrics, antique furniture, and Murano glass chandeliers. Up-to-date amenities and technology are also available, in case you forget you’re in the 21st century. Situated along the Grand Canal, this Old World palace boasts magnificent vistas of gondolas and water taxis streaming down the channel. The in-house restaurant, bar, and spa are enough to convince you to stay in, but the short walk to Saint Mark’s Square is also too good to pass up.
