Wat Phra Kaew as known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand. ~ Located in the historic centre of Bangkok and within the grounds of the Grand Palace. the highly revered Buddha image meticulously carved from a single block of jade. ~ The king changes its golden garments on the statue for each of the three seasons. Carved from a single block of jade, the statue was discovered in 1464 when a bolt of lightning hit a decorative stucco coating in a temple to reveal the jade underneath it. Local legends note that Hindu demigods Vishnu and Indra created the statuette under the prediction that Buddha would provide five lands with religion. Nestled in the historic center of the city, the temple is viewed with great respect and reverence, as it remains to be one of Thailand’s most sacred temples.
