You can tell this place is trendy because it doesn’t have a sign, but look for the wooden door between Ainu and Ajisen on Thong lor between soi 5 and 7. Handcrafted cocktails from expert bartenders with an emphasis on bitters. I like the Touchwood.

Bangkok has a lot of amazing food and a lot of great cocktail bars but not that many places that nail both. Indulge has great signature cocktails (50% off Mon to Fri 5-7) and a nice menu of western and Asian dishes. The location is super convenient right next to Asok BTS station.

There is something a little incongruous about seeing the words “Old English Pub” and “Established 2018” on a sign. However this is actually a great addition to the Thong Lor strip. A decent imitation of an English pub with reasonably priced beers, Premier League football, pub fare and quiz nights on Tuesday.

2Two years ago the beloved Hemingway bar housed in an old teak Thai house closed. It's finally back at a new location on Soi 11. Much of the old furniture has returned and there is a terrace and balcony overlooking the Soi. Cheap drinks during the all day happy hour just 99baht for house wine. kitchen only opens at 2pm during soft opening. No baby chair but kid friendly.

Fun concept this weekend the rooftop of Surawongse hotel is taken over by street food stalls run by the 25+ Marriott hotels in BKK. Also cheap drinks. Get there early because they were starting to run out of food by 9.

3Canadian expats rejoice, the Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons has come to Bangkok! At the recently opened Samyan Mitrtown mall I joined several hundred other people lining up for coffee and TH’s famous donuts and Timbits (donut holes). Prices are pretty good for a international chain in BKK (95 baht for any coffee and donut), I liked the maple dip donut best. They have plans to open eight branches in Bangkok this year. Judging by the crowds they may be on to something.

3This cafe is located down a very seedy soi surrounded by "massage" parlours. However by day this dive bar run by a Filipina team serves up tasty Western breakfast food at very reasonable prices. You can also sit outside and watch the parade of characters who go past!

Coffee shop by day, film-themed cocktail bar by night. Part of a new upscale food court called “Falabella” in the seenspace complex on thong lor soi 13, so you can order a drink from the director while ordering food from one of the other restaurants (I had a decent crepe). They have an interesting selection of coffee mocktails combining coffee with ingedients like lemongrass or orange juice.

3Bangkok has no shortage of rooftop bars, but they can be overpriced and stuffy with inconsistent dress codes and overthought cocktails. Happily Bar.Yard at the new Kimpton Maa-Lai hotel is an exception. 2020 probably isn't the ideal year to launch a new hotel and bar, but the tropical concept of this rooftop bar in Langsuan has already brought in the local hi-so crowd ready to take their Instagram snaps. It's not just a pretty face though, the food is overseen by chef Lamberto Valdez Lara who has over 25 years experience across various top hotels and bars, and includes a melt-in-your-mouth beef brisket. I'm a sucker for Moscow Mules, and Bar.Yard's interpretation include the Mezcal Mule, which of course comes in the requisite copper mug. While Thailand's borders remain closed, it's a great place to watch the sun set before the tourists come back!
