Glorious sunsets, glistening temples, and warm smiles are just among the many things that make Thailand golden
Bangkok
When friends and relatives come to Bangkok, here are some places to take them!
Some of the acting is a little hammy but the Muay Thai action is a lot of fun to watch in this stage show. Order tickets online for a big discount over the box office price. There is a nice night market at Asiatique to browse for souvenirs before or after the show.
Warehouse 4 at Asiatique The Riverfront, 2194 Charoenkrung Road, Bang Kho Laem, Bangkok, Thailand
Made famous by appearing in The Hangover 2, the view from this rooftop bar is indeed spectacular. No shorts and no sandals.
1055 Silom Road, Bangrak, Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok’s tallest building just opened a skywalk at the top. A little pricey (850 baht) but there is a terrifying looking “Glass Tray” glass floored section you can walk on from 314 meters up!
114 Narathiwas Road, Silom, Bangrak, Bangkok, Thailand
A fancy food court in the basement of Central Embassy mall. If you want to try a lot of different Thai food including street food while remaining fully air conditioned, this is the place!
Lower Ground Level, Central Embassy Shopping Mall, Ploenchit Road, Bangkok, Thailand
This beautiful space on the top floor of Central Embassy houses a bookshop, coworking space, boutiques and numerous cafes. You can happily sit for hours using the free WiFi without anyone bothering you :)
Level 6, Central Embassy, 1031 Ploenchit Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok, Thailand
The good thing about Bangkok is that whether you are in the street or in a fancy mall, you are never far from great Thai food. If you have been shopping at CentralWorld, Kalpapreuk on the 7th floor offers home style Thai dishes at reasonable prices. The crispy pork is recommended!
Seventh Floor Central World, 4 Ratchadamri Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok, Thailand
Jim Thompson is best known for selling stylish Thai silk products, but they have also branched out into food. Next to their shop at Siam Paragon is this new restaurant, serving upmarket Thai dishes. It's pricey although you can get a 50% discount off food at off-peak hours if you use the "Eatigo" app. The crab cakes with mango were pretty good, and the padang style beef curry with Australian beef was excellent. The decor is very chic, with black and green accents and hexagonal tables and coasters. Pretty quiet when we went at 2pm on a Saturday. A decent Thai option in the mall.
Main Floor (M34B) Siam Paragon Shopping Center, Bangkok, Thailand
There aren’t many traditional teak houses left in Bangkok. Enjoy the preserved architecture of Thailand’s favorite expat and savior of the Thai silk industry, Jim Thompson.

Yup it’s another rooftop bar, at the Marriott on Sukhumvit Soi 57. Happy hour daily 5 to 7 is good value. Very friendly service. No reservations needed. Join Marriott’s loyalty program and you will get a discount.

Finally made it here for a date night, just a few neonates from my house off Thong Lor. Authentic and spicy southern Thai cuisine. They take credit cards now. The crab curry is excellent.
98/1 Sukhumvit 53 Alley, Khwaeng Khlong Tan Nuea, Khet Watthana, Bangkok, Thailand
As it has just won a Michelin star, I can officially say I went there before it was cool! With 6 or 9 course tasting menus, all impeccably presented, and very friendly service, it’s a great date place.
113/9-10 Sukhumvit Soi 55 (Thonglor), Bangkok, Thailand
Set up by a Thai/Hawaiian couple, this tiny cafe in the Thong Lor backstreets sells açaí bowls, smoothies and cold press juices. As usual in Thailand, it’s a bit unclear why you need four members of staff behind the counter, but service is very friendly :)

If you are craving sushi rolls Muteki has a nice selection. the spider rolls are very crunchy with avocado and crab.
Sixth Floor Central Embassy, Ploenchit Road, Bangkok, Thailand
Famous for its som tam (payaya salad) but a large menu includes many other dishes especially from the issan region. Excellent fish and mango and sticky rice. A bit far from the bts to walk so hop a taxi. there's a popular outdoor beer garden. Proudly claims to be listed in the Michelin guide and to hold a Guinness World Record for the largest Mango Sticky Rice!

Surprisingly authentic Southern US barbeque in Bangkok! Very good cheese grits and tasty platters. Big portions. Soft opening until May.
30/7-8 Ekkamai 12 Alley, Khlong Tan Nuea, Bangkok, Thailand
Did you know Neapolitan style pizza is recognized as a UNESCO intangible cultural landmark? Nor did I until I read the menu at Peppina. High quality imported ingredients make for fresh and tasty pizzas!
Open House Level 6, Central Embassy 1031 Ploenchit Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok, Thailand
Popular Japanese restaurant on soi 31 with excellent sushi rolls. Try the Crunchy and the excellent LLL rolls with the plum wine. Make a reservation as it gets loud and busy even on weekday nights.
5 Sukhumvit 31 Wattana, Bangkok, Thailand
I probably won't be able to afford a stay at the Mandarin Oriental hotel anytime soon, so the next best thing is to go to the bakery at Emporium where you can pick up a Rosemary Foccacia loaf for only 100 baht! They also do good croissants, pain au chocolat and quiche.
4th floor, Emporium Shopping Complex 622 24 Sukhumvit Rd, Khlong Toei, Khet Khlong Toei, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110, Thailand
Their menu resembles the periodic table! Good juices and smoothies blended fresh. Also has branches in Siam Paragon and Centralworld.
4th floor Emporium tower 626, 622 ถนนสุขุมวิท แขวง คลองตัน เขตคลองเตย กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand
Sit and Wonder moved last year off the main Thong Lo street into a backstreet, the new location is just as tasty! Thai staples like curries, noodles and soupa, at very reasonable prices for the area, lot of dishes for around 100 baht and cheap drinks!
14 ซอย สุขุมวิท 57 Khwaeng Khlong Tan Nuea, Khet Watthana, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110, Thailand
Off for a valentines staycation! Nice hotel conveniently situated near Phrom Phong. Huge lobby, the pastries at the Siam Tearoom are good. Booking a club room gets you access to the lounge with all day soft drinks and a very generous 4 hour boozy happy hour. And unlike some hotels they are happy to let kids in the lounge! So dad can enjoy his wine and heart shaped macaroons :)

Awesome idea, some restaurants in Bangkok need to maintain social distancing, this restaurant is using large stuffed pandas to take the empty seats https://coconuts.co/bangkok/food-drink/pho-love-of-pandas-bangkok-restaurant-now-seating-diners-with-stuffed-animal-companions/

Need to check this place out! https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2020/06/05/for-45-years-in-yannawa-a-chicken-rice-shop-never-lost-its-charm/

There are no end of instagrammable cafes with mediocre food, but featherstone combined a hip vintage style with some very tasty and unusual dishes. For example I wouldn't have thought to combine mashed potato and crispy chicken skin but it works. While the menus include a long description about feathers and crystals and mysticism it doesn't get in the way of the good food and service. There's also a shop with interesting homewares, hats and jewellery.

My daughter loves singing baby shark all day and all night so this was the perfect birthday treat. Lots of rays, fish, snakes, penguins, and of course sharks. If you are an expat you can get the thai price by showing your work permit.
