Often referred to as the “Russian Versailles,” Peterhof boasts an impressive cluster of lavish parks and mansions. The brainchild of Peter the Great, the UNESCO World Heritage site features a series of structures that pay tribute to the country’s rich history and heritage. Spot Peterhof’s majestic centerpiece, the Grand Palace, which served as the former summer palace of Russia’s monarchs. Glorious water fountains surround the building, the most famous being the Samson Fountain on the Grand Cascade. Find the statue of Samson tearing up a lion’s jaw, symbolizing Russia’s victory over Sweden during the Great Northern War!

The Palace of Versailles was the principal residence of the French kings from the time of Louis XIV to Louis XVI. Embellished by several generations of architects, sculptors, decorators and landscape architects, it provided Europe with a model of the ideal royal residence for over a century.

The Eastern Palace was the longest-serving royal residential palace. A lot of its features are well preserved, and it was even proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. Great stop to learn about the domestic life of Korean royals. There's a beautiful garden at the rear end, but we weren't able to visit. The complex is huge so be prepared to walk. (Oh and there's an entrance fee, I think it was KRW3000.)

While strolling around the Art Market, take a detour to visit the Royal Palace. Traditional balinese dances are held daily from 7pm to 9pm. 👍 While the dance show doesn't usually get overcrowded, be there earlier to get a good seat, as seating is entirely based on first-come, first-served. Admission: Free (admission to the show is separate and costs 100'000IDR)
