Coffee Lover's Planet

Taipei, China • Memory •

Came here with Uncle Roger for breakfast at 8am on a weekday. Love this place! - Super spacious, lovely atmosphere - Enjoy the open, relaxed vibe with jazz in the background - Great for morning coffee and casual meetings with friends - Coffee is amazing. So many choices, one of the best coffee places I’ve been to - Super convenient location as well **CUISINE: International Coffee Shop. They have coffee from all over the world. **LOCATION: Right in the city center of Taipei, in the basement of the SOGO shopping mall. But don’t be fooled; there are 3-4 storey windows to let the natural light in! **FOOD: Great place for coffee, not so great for food. So so so many coffee options to choose from. They serve ground up coffee beans with your coffee so you can get a sniff of the aroma before you drink. The only problem I have are with the food options - there aren’t too many, and while presentation is pretty, the sandwiches are served in a way that makes eating pretty messy. **SERVICE: You go up to the counter to order, so it’s quite straightforward. They deliver your coffee to your table, and there are waiters who will assist you if you need anything. **ENVIRONMENT: Lots of light, very open. Can get quite crowded though, and because of the acoustics (they’re terrible) it can get quite loud. But if you come in the morning and beat the crowd, it’s so worth it. Enjoy the open, relaxed vibe with jazz in the background! **WOULD I COME BACK: Yes **RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS: Yes **COMMENTS: Next time, I want to try their pour-over coffee and cold brew!

日本橋玉井

Taipei, China • Memory •

- Specialty: Japanese Eel Rice, Tempura - Awarded Michelin Star 2018 Dad and I literally stumbled upon this place while we were walking around playing Pokemon Go. We were hungry, Japanese is my favorite, we wanted to try a new restaurant, and this place seemed so welcoming with its shiny new Michelin sign at the door. **CUISINE: Japanese** The restaurant actually specialises in eel rice. Everything on the menu has eel. **LOCATION** Quite convenient, next to the Zhongshan Junior High School train station. Not located on a big street, but it’s in a quiet, safe area. **FOOD: 9/10** Dad and I got the small tempura set dinner. Great presentation. Started with a sashimi platter, tofu and seaweed appetisers. Tempura set was super delicious - clearly very fresh, batter was light, tempura sauce was fragrant and all the seasoning options on the side were perfect. One of the best tempura I’ve had in Taipei so far. After we were done, they served the eel rice (choice between marinated eel or grilled eel; Dad and I both got grilled eel). Choice of 5 seasonings on eel rice, so you can season to your preference. They left a bowl on the side, so you could turn a portion of your eel rice into a soup! Loved it. Dessert was a homemade vanilla/caramel custard pudding, Japanese style of course. So yummy. **SERVICE: 8/10** They were fully booked when we walked in (no surprises there, it was a Saturday night) but they let us sit at the bar. Staff were quite friendly, but I could tell they were rushing. We didn’t have to wait too long between courses; just enough to let the food settle, but not long enough that we wondered when our next course would come. **ENVIRONMENT: 10/10** It’s kind of dimly lit, so I guess you could call it romantic. In a very Japanese way. Very clean. The restaurant is actually not that small. Bathroom is clean and comfortable, they even have the automatic Japanese toilets. **VALUE FOR MONEY: 9/10** Total was NTD2688 for 2 people (~HKD700). So that’s NTD1344 per person including tax & service charge (~HKD350). Reasonable for a Michelin Star restaurant. For Taiwan, it's considered a little bit expensive, but by international standards, very reasonable. **WOULD I COME BACK: Yes** **RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS: Yes**

Came here with dad in September 2018. I got the 四星報喜. There are cheaper items on the menu but it was my first time eating here, so dad and I got the recommended items. It's definitely not the classiest place. Great value for quantity of food though.

Lulu Italian Restaurant

2 saves

Taipei, China • Memory •

Lulu is an Italian restaurant with its own bakery. Located near a main roads 复兴北路 and 民生东路. 5 minutes walk from Zhongshan Junior High School Station. Everything was good overall. Some interesting choices in the set dinner menu. Super customizable. It's a white-tablecloth place, very clean. Can get noisy because the kitchen is near the dining room and the ceiling are low. Cosy vibe overall. Service was excellent, food arrived quickly and server was helpful and answered all our questions. 1. Salad & appetizers Sautéed mushrooms with shrimp & garlic. Super fresh and fragrant. Shrimp a little dry but flavorful. Bread is really good, since everything is freshly made in the bakery. Highly recommend the garlic bread. (note: The bakery sells everything 20% off at 7pm) 2. Soups Cappuccino mushroom soup - mushroom soup with foam, served in a coffee cup. Really interesting. Quite small serving size though. 3. Main Ordered the special - Seared toro with risotto. Lacking a bit in presentation but it's so so good!! Toro is so soft, perfectly seared. Risotto is tasty. Creaminess is consistent. 4. Drinks Iced green tea - refreshing. 5. Dessert Soufflé - 百香菇 passion fruit on the side. They cut it open and pour the vanilla sauce and some passion fruit inside. Sweet sour taste, really refreshing. Highly recommend.

野人Shabu

Taipei, China • Memory •

Stumbled upon this Shabu Shabu place with Dad. We got the beef set dinner. Choice of seaweed broth or hokkaido milk soup base. I got the hokkaido milk, was curious as I'd never tried it, and seemed to be quite popular as most other people in the restaurant ordered it. Dad got the seaweed broth. We both preferred the seaweed broth though, maybe out of habit. For beef, we got the USDA sirloin and boneless fillet. Both were nice. The Shabu Shabu came with a vegetable bowl, as expected. They also had a choice of glass noodles or ramen noodles, and all you can eat rice. We got the glass noodles, was ok. Nothing too special. Dessert was a choice between hot red bean soup or ice cream (2 flavors: mocha and lychee). Dad got mocha, I got lychee. We both enjoyed our choices.

Shabu Shabu place - central location, nice environment. Would come back! They make congee from the leftover Shabu Shabu which is so cool. Dad and I were looking for Shabu Shabu places and this was recommended to us. We went for a super early dinner at 4:30pm so it pretty quiet. I like how there are blinds separating some tables, so it's more private. We got the set dinner course (see picture) - salad, USDA Prime Short Ribs, congee (enjoyed it a lot) and pudding for dessert.

Cute, convenient pizza place near where I stay in Taipei. Dad and I come here for their "napoleon" style pizza. So far, I've only tried the Hawaiian, so I can't really say much about the rest of their menu. Dad always gets the spicy Mexican pizza though lol - says it's "his favorite pizza ever"

Get the Chicken Karage with salted egg sauce and rice. Ingredients are fresh, sauces are made in-house and the chicken is amazing! For added spice, get some of their homemade chili sauce on the side. What's interesting is that this is a fusion restaurant - they serve everything from Japanese rice dishes to Italian pastas to Malaysian laksa. Pretty cheap, good quality food. Vibe is a bit lacking though.

Gabee Coffee

If you like pumpkin spice lattes and fancy cocktails, this one's for you! Never thought I would have sweet potato coffee... but I did, and it blew my mind. Award-winning iced latte, with a slice of caramelized sweet potato, topped with a tiny bit of whipped cream and a coffee bean. The server advised to take a bite of sweet potato and then sip the latte, and use the spoon to lightly stir so the bottom layers of the coffee rise to the top. Woah. They also have "regular" coffee options if you're looking for that.

Very Thai Restaurant

Taipei, China • Memory •

Authentic, yummy, "very thai" thai food. We had the shrimp & pineapple fried rice, yellow curry chicken, tender chicken wrapped in orchid leaves, and stir-fried water spinach. Homemade mango ice cream, and tapioca pearls with taro pearls in coconut milk for dessert. Pretty nice vibe, they play disco in the background (lol) but the delicious food makes up for it. Chill place for casual dinner with friends - I will be back!
