The Connaught Hotel

2 saves

London, United Kingdom • Recommendation •

Brian likes the Connaught. Best location, interiors are not too “stuffy” (like The Ritz or The Savoy). Good breakfast at Jean-Georges, nice bar with a great whisky. Decent spa. Would stay there again.

One of my favorite breakfasts in a hotel. Beautiful interiors and great food. Get a table by the window - super pretty in the morning.

Seafood in the heart of London. Recommend the dorset dressed crab. Reasonably priced caviar. Gets quite busy so must make a reservation.

Cecconi's Mayfair

London, United Kingdom • Recommendation •

Good all-day dining. Brian and I like to come here for breakfast or a quick lunch. For breakfast, I usually get the egg white and spinach omelet, with a side of smoked salmon. For the rest of the day, Brian recommends the lobster spaghetti and zucchini friti (fries).

Bugis Street Brasserie

London, United Kingdom • Memory •

Named after the Bugis area in Singapore. The hotel that runs the restaurant is owned by Singaporeans and they hired a Singaporean chef. Great south east asian food in London. Although, they were really understaffed the last time we were there, so service was quite slow.

Homey, real Italian food. Linguini vongole is good. Brian likes the calf liver and the veal Milanese. I really like their tiramisu and profiteroles.

Taiwanese food in London Chinatown. The Taiwanese staff were happy when we ordered in Chinese but they can be a bit rude. Very casual, cash only.

Rosewood London

London, United Kingdom • Recommendation •

Really nice hotel interiors. The beds are SO comfortable. But I felt like this particular Rosewood wasn't as good as others we've stayed at. Food in the restaurant is ok. The outside "cafe" is so pretty especially in the summer/fall. Preferred staying at The Connaught.

Il Baretto

London, United Kingdom • Recommendation •

Came here once with Brian and another time with Dad. Downstairs sitting area is spacious. Upstairs sitting area is more cozy but can feel a bit cramped. Classic minestrone was great - light and broth-like. Salt baked sea bass and chicken was delicious. Would not recommend the squid salad.

Brian and I came once and had the tasting menu. Food was ok; Brian says restaurant is overhyped. Good burrata, meat was slightly overcooked in ragout rigatoni. Nice dining area. Service can be improved. Overpriced wine list. Worth going to see for yourself.

Chinese restaurant - not in Chinatown. More refined than Royal China Baker Street. Expensive but good.

The Ledbury

4 saves

London, United Kingdom • Recommendation •

LOVE. The Ledbury lives up to its shimmering 2 Michelin Star reputation. Best Mille Feuille I ever had (pic 11) - it didn't fall apart even when we cut it into quarters, and the knife came out clean. To satisfy savory cravings, highly recommend the egg dish (pic 8; was so good we ordered another) and the wrapped slow cooked beef (pic 10). Wine list is expensive but at the top ends there are good wines for decent prices. Would definitely come back. Ladies; leave the 6-inch heels at home, you need to walk down a narrow flight of stairs to get to the bathroom.

Would come again just for the veal cheek dumpling (raviolo). Nice place overall - cosy, relatively casual, nice interiors. Good food and service. Good for a date or for small groups. Hard to book though!

One Michelin Star is deserved - would come back for the food. However, service is so-so, and wine list is expensive and uninteresting. But corkage is cheap (Sunday is free!) so BYOB. Private room is really nice and at no extra charge. Recommend getting the quiche and the sweetbread if it's available (seasonal menu).

Hyatt Regency London The Churchill

Since our room was on the club lounge floor, we had access to the 2 lounges (one bigger "family" lounge, and one smaller but quieter "business" lounge). Both have the same free breakfast selection. The only thing is that the rooms are on the smaller side. Had dinner in the bar one night; was disappointed by the service. The room service isn't *amazing* either. Redeeming factor: hotel is in a great location, close to everything.
